When God Becomes Real

All Nations Community Church · Leeds

An introduction to twelve days of honest prayer, Scripture and everyday faith.

  • Introduction
  • Full Bible passages
  • Prayer and practical next steps

When life is unsettled, prayer gives us a place to bring what we cannot resolve alone. Jesus warns that love can grow cold; Scripture also promises renewal. This journey invites you to keep turning towards God as you explore faith, face questions and learn to love. Begin with an honest sentence, then take one day at a time.

Read and reflect on Scripture

Read slowly and consider each passage in its biblical setting. The full Bible passages are included here to help you stay with the guide.

Matthew 24:12

World English Bible British Edition

12 Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold.

Jesus speaks to his disciples about difficult times. His warning invites attention to the condition of our love.

1 John 5:4

World English Bible British Edition

4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith.

John grounds Christian perseverance in faith in God. Trust is directed towards him, rather than towards our ability to control circumstances.

Ezekiel 36:26

World English Bible British Edition

26 I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.

This promise first addresses God’s people in a setting of restoration. It reveals God’s concern for inward renewal, not merely outward religious activity.

Make room for a real conversation

You may be new to church, rebuilding a prayer habit or carrying questions you have never said aloud. Set aside a manageable moment. Read the Scripture slowly, notice what it says about God, and speak in words you understand. Each guide has four prompts: Perception, Process, Purpose and Path. Use the ones that help you, and add your own words. A missed day is simply an opportunity to return. The twelve days are a suggested rhythm, not a deadline for feeling close to God. A person exploring Christianity can begin with a question and seek a conversation about Jesus.

Four prayer starters

Use these prayers as a starting point, then add words of your own.

Perception

What am I noticing?

God, help me notice what your word reveals about you and where my heart needs your renewing care.

Process

How am I understanding it?

Father, teach me to bring you my questions and to examine my assumptions patiently in the light of Scripture.

Purpose

What matters before God?

Lord Jesus, let this prayer journey grow a love that reaches my family, neighbours and the people I find difficult.

Path

What is my next faithful step?

Holy Spirit, help me make space today, pray honestly and follow one clear step of love. Amen.

Put it into practice today

  1. Choose a daily cue: after breakfast, before the journey to work, or at another realistic point in your day.
  2. Keep a notebook with three spaces: the Bible passage; my honest prayer; one action I can take.
  3. Read the twelve guides in order, beginning with The Beginner’s Prayer. Pause or repeat a day whenever useful.
  4. Use the four prompts as starting points. Leave room for thanks, requests, confession, silence and questions.
  5. At the end, review what you learnt and choose a sustainable prayer rhythm with a trusted Christian.

Questions for reflection or a small group

  • What would I like to say to God without editing my feelings?
  • What makes prayer difficult in this season?
  • Who could read and pray with me without putting me under pressure?

Discuss the Bible and the questions at your own pace. Sharing personal experiences is optional.

A next step: The first step is available today: read, speak honestly, and remain open to learning who God is.
