  • Day 12 of 12
  • Full Bible passages
  • Prayer and practical next steps

Jesus teaches his disciples to seek the Father’s kingdom while asking for daily provision, forgiveness and protection. Kingdom prayer includes our needs and widens our concern to others. The Scriptures below invite humility, renewed thinking, unity and confident access to God through Christ. Let the final day become a beginning for prayer expressed in faithful service.

Read and reflect on Scripture

Read slowly and consider each passage in its biblical setting. The full Bible passages are included here to help you stay with the guide.

Luke 18:11–14

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed by himself like this: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of men: extortionists, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

12 I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.’

13 But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn’t even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Bring the prayer into the places you already live

Make a page with five spaces: home, work or study, church, Leeds, and the wider world. In each space, name one person or situation and one quality of God’s character you want to see expressed: mercy, truth, justice, peace or faithful love. Ask for provision that helps you fulfil real responsibilities. Where practical action is possible, write it beside the prayer. For a city concern, learn from people who understand it before offering a solution. Prayer with others can strengthen care and attention; agreement is not authority to control another person’s choices or to guarantee a result.

Five dimensions of kingdom prayer

  • Faith: Approach God through Christ, asking with confidence in his mercy.
  • Mindset: Let Scripture renew the assumptions behind your everyday choices.
  • Heart: Pray for unity and for people whose needs differ from yours.
  • Dreams: Name a hope that serves others and fits God’s character.
  • Prayer: Bring that hope to God with provision, forgiveness and practical obedience.

Four prayer starters

Use these prayers as a starting point, then add words of your own.

Perception

What am I noticing?

Father, widen my attention to the people and places you call me to love.

Process

How am I understanding it?

God, renew my thinking so your character shapes the way I handle today’s needs.

Purpose

What matters before God?

Jesus, make my service reflect your mercy, truth and reconciling love.

Path

What is my next faithful step?

Lord, let your kingdom shape my home, work and community, and guide one faithful action today. Amen.

Put it into practice today

  1. Write the five spaces and place one name or situation in each.
  2. Choose one biblical quality to pray for in each situation.
  3. Ask for the provision and wisdom needed to meet your existing responsibilities.
  4. Pray with one willing person, respecting the privacy of anyone named.
  5. Complete one appropriate act of care and choose a rhythm for continued prayer after this journey.

Questions for reflection or a small group

  • Who is missing from my usual prayers?
  • What need in Leeds could I learn about more thoughtfully?
  • What act of service could accompany the prayer I have written?

Discuss the Bible and the questions at your own pace. Sharing personal experiences is optional.

A next step: Return to the Lord’s Prayer regularly, and let your concern for God’s kingdom become visible in patient, useful love.
