FAITH, COMMUNITY AND EVERYDAY LIFE

How can I make friends at church?

Friendship usually grows through repeated, ordinary contact. A first visit can begin that process, but you do not need to become a member or share personal details immediately to get to know people at ANCC.

Begin with a manageable visit

Choose a gathering and check the practical details. You can come on your own or bring someone you know. Let a welcoming person know it is your first time if you would like help finding your way.

Allow time for familiarity

A short conversation after a gathering can help you recognise someone next time. Ask about an interest or a part of the church you would like to understand. Returning when you can often makes conversation easier.

Ask about current ways to connect

Groups and activities can change. Use Connect to ask what is currently available and suitable for your situation. If you are a student or new to Leeds, the audience guides offer a useful starting point.

Keep healthy boundaries

You can choose how much to share and how quickly a friendship develops. Respect another person’s privacy too. A church relationship should not require secrecy, financial pressure or an immediate commitment.

Questions people ask

Will I be welcome if I come alone?

You can visit on your own and ask for help finding your way.

Are groups running at the moment?

Ask Connect about the current activities, arrangements and availability rather than assuming a past listing is still active.

Do I need to join before meeting people?

A visit and a conversation can come before a decision about membership.
