FAITH, COMMUNITY AND EVERYDAY LIFE

What does believing in Jesus mean?

Believing in Jesus means trusting who he is and responding to his teaching, death and resurrection. Christians understand faith as a relationship of trust in him, rather than simply agreeing that a religious figure existed.

Begin with Jesus himself

Read one of the Gospels, such as Mark or John. Notice what Jesus says about God, how he treats people and what he asks of his followers. Reading the whole passage helps you understand a sentence in its setting.

Understand grace and a changed life

Ephesians 2:8–10 connects salvation with God’s grace and also describes a life of good works. Christians do not understand good deeds as purchasing forgiveness. They are part of learning to live in response to God’s gift.

Make room for your questions

You may have questions about evidence, other religions, suffering or past experiences of church. Naming a question honestly is a useful starting point. A conversation should help you think, not pressure you into saying something you do not believe.

Take one practical step

Read a Gospel passage, begin an honest prayer or visit a gathering where you can hear Christian teaching. Our Who Is Jesus guide explains the central Christian claims, while Next Steps helps you explore what following him looks like.

Questions people ask

Is belief only about having no doubts?

No. Trust and unanswered questions can exist together. The Gospels include people who ask for help understanding and believing.

Must I understand everything before visiting?

You can visit while exploring. You do not need to present yourself as a Christian to attend.

Does believing mean joining ANCC immediately?

A decision about Christian faith and a decision about church membership are related but distinct. Take time to ask about both.
