Financial pressure can make it difficult to sleep, think clearly or open another letter. You can bring that pressure to God without being ashamed. Christian prayer can support truthful planning and asking for help; it is not a promise that a debt will disappear or that a donation will produce a financial return.
Start with an accurate picture of your situation and a manageable next action. This is a devotional and a general starting point, not personal financial advice. If debt, arrears or essential costs are becoming difficult, use qualified, independent guidance rather than making a hurried commitment or borrowing because someone promised a spiritual breakthrough.

How to begin, step by step
1. Make the position visible
Gather recent bills, income information and important dates. Write down what you know and mark anything that needs checking. Keep sensitive account details private; you do not need to publish them in a prayer request.
2. Identify what needs attention
List the questions that are worrying you and note any letters or deadlines you do not understand. Take these to a qualified debt adviser rather than guessing the consequences or ignoring correspondence.
3. Ask for appropriate help
Use MoneyHelper’s free debt advice locator to find suitable guidance. A trusted person may help you organise documents or attend a conversation, while a qualified adviser helps you understand your options.
4. Choose one sustainable action
Agree the next action with the appropriate adviser where needed, record the date and review progress. Avoid promising more than you can manage. Prayer can accompany patient, honest follow-through.
Seven days of reading, action and prayer
Take one day at a time. Read the complete passage printed for that day, consider the reflection, take the action if appropriate and use the prayer in your own words. You can repeat a day or move more slowly. Keep a private note of what you notice and the support you may need.
Day 1 — Tell the truth about the pressure
Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace for help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16 — World English Bible
Reflect: You can approach God in need rather than waiting until finances are in order.
Do: Write the financial concern in one sentence without including private account numbers.
Pray: Father, I bring you this pressure. Give me courage to face the facts and ask for wise help. Amen.
Day 2 — Pause before a rushed decision
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5 — World English Bible
Reflect: Wisdom matters when urgency makes every offer look attractive.
Do: Write down one decision you feel rushed to make and identify what you need to check.
Pray: God, help me slow down, recognise pressure and seek trustworthy advice before committing. Amen.
Day 3 — Gather the information
The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.
Proverbs 21:5 — World English Bible
Reflect: The proverb commends diligence rather than haste; it is not a guarantee about every budget.
Do: Put current bills, income records and relevant dates in one private place.
Pray: Lord, give me patience to organise what I know and honesty about what still needs checking. Amen.
Day 4 — Count the cost
For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?
Luke 14:28 — World English Bible
Reflect: Jesus uses careful preparation as an illustration in teaching about discipleship.
Do: Before a new commitment, list its costs and the questions to discuss with an appropriate adviser.
Pray: Father, help me consider consequences carefully and avoid promises I cannot responsibly keep. Amen.
Day 5 — Allow someone to help
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2 — World English Bible
Reflect: Practical support can be part of Christian love.
Do: Use the free debt advice locator or ask someone to help you arrange a suitable conversation.
Pray: God, lead me to competent, respectful support and help me receive it without shame. Amen.
Day 6 — Distinguish needs and worth
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can’t carry anything out. But having food and clothing, we will be content with that.
1 Timothy 6:6–8 — World English Bible
Reflect: Contentment does not make hardship imaginary or remove the need for help.
Do: Name one essential need and one comparison that is increasing pressure.
Pray: Jesus, help me seek what is needed without measuring my worth by possessions or another person’s life. Amen.
Day 7 — Take the agreed next step
Let’s not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season if we don’t give up.
Galatians 6:9 — World English Bible
Reflect: Faithful progress may look like a small, repeated action.
Do: Record one appropriate next action, when you will do it and when you will review it.
Pray: Father, sustain me in honest action. Provide wise support and help me continue patiently. Amen.
