QUESTIONS ABOUT FAITH
Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. For Christians, the story is about God coming close to humanity and the hope found in Jesus, rather than the pressure to create a perfect celebration.
The Gospels of Matthew and Luke describe Jesus' birth. Mary and Joseph, a journey to Bethlehem and the welcome of shepherds form part of a story Christians understand as God fulfilling his promises.
Christians believe Jesus is God the Son, who became human. His birth begins the earthly life that leads to his teaching, death and resurrection. Christmas belongs within that larger story of God's love and salvation.
Christmas can bring joy, loneliness, grief or difficult family expectations. You do not have to feel festive to explore its meaning or ask for support.
