ANCC believes the Holy Spirit gives gifts to build up the church. Any discussion of prophecy should be grounded in Scripture, humility and responsible discernment.

Read 1 Corinthians 13 and 14 together. Spiritual gifts are described within a life of love and the building up of the church. A striking experience does not remove the need for good character and care.
A claim to speak for God should not be accepted without consideration. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:19–22 and 1 Corinthians 14:29. Ask whether the message is consistent with Scripture and bring concerns to responsible church leadership.
Do not use a spiritual claim to pressure someone about relationships, money, medical treatment or other major decisions. People can ask questions, decline personal ministry and seek appropriate advice.
If you are unfamiliar with spiritual gifts or concerned about something said to you, ask for a pastoral conversation. Safeguarding concerns should use the dedicated reporting route.
Read the Bible in context and explore how gifts serve the whole church. Christian discernment is an ongoing responsibility, not a reason to abandon thoughtful judgment.
