FAITH, COMMUNITY AND EVERYDAY LIFE

How do I enquire about counselling or pastoral care?

If you are looking for someone to talk to, ask ANCC what support is currently available and who provides it. A pastoral conversation and professional counselling are different services; check which is being offered.

Describe the request briefly

You can say that you would like information about a conversation, counselling or support with a particular area of life. The first enquiry does not need detailed health history or private information about other people.

Ask about the person and the service

Before arranging counselling, ask about relevant qualifications, professional registration, costs, availability and how sessions work. Do not assume that a church webpage establishes that a regulated or qualified service is available.

Understand confidentiality

Ask how notes and personal information are handled and what happens if a safeguarding concern arises. Appropriate boundaries should be explained before you disclose sensitive details.

Use urgent support where necessary

A website enquiry is unsuitable when immediate help is needed. Seek the appropriate urgent service. Pastoral care can accompany relevant healthcare, but it should not delay treatment or an urgent response.

Questions people ask

Does this page offer an appointment?

No. It explains how to enquire about availability and the nature of any support offered.

Can I ask for prayer instead?

Yes. Use Prayer Request or ask the church about a pastoral conversation.

Where do I send the enquiry?

Use Care or Contact Us and choose a safe way for the church to respond.
